This zine explores the relationship between rap and theatre – two bold, expressive art forms with more in common than expected. Born from a love of both genres, this project was spurred by the 2024 release of ”Warriors” — a concept album co-written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Punchy color is paired with jagged, energetic shapes to mirror the unapologetic attitude of both worlds, with a mock theatre script cover. Inside spreads have mini-bios of impactful rappers and musicals in the past 30 years. The final spread shows a table, spotlighting the genres’ importance to culture, overlaid with vellum printed with the zine’s message, center stage.
Spreads were made in Illustrator and arranged in InDesign. Five copies were printed using a risograph machine, with vellum pages printed in ink printers.
